Visaginas train station
Tour's starting place
A full day authentic experience. Start with a hike through dense forests, along picturesque lakes and spongy swamps, take a break for lunch cooked over open fire, and finish off with a traditional sauna experience. Perfectly balanced nature tour, designed to strengthen your immune system and bring you a feeling of deep relaxation and rejuvenation.
Gražutės Regional Park can be reached by train or coach from Vilnius in 2 to 2.5-hours.
Why choose this tour?
No worries about way finding and your personal safety
Enjoy the fresh and shining faces of your loved ones during (and long time after!) the hike
Strengthen your immune system and get a therapeutic effect from breathing the pine forest air
Get a first-hand insight into local's life and traditions
Save at least 5 hours of your time, which you would have spent searching for the sauna, planning the route and solving other organizational questions
Starting right from the Visaginas Railway Station, we'll head off towards Smalvos lake. You can leave a bag with your sauna essentials at the starting point - this will wait for you in the sauna.
A local guide will lead you on a 10 kilometre hike through dense forests, along beautiful lakes and close to spongy swamps. Expect to hear about local flora and fauna, pick some edible herbs and berries along the way (in summer) and possibly spot some wildlife. In winter, immerse in a snowy forest fairy tale, walk on frozen lakes and enjoy the silence of sleeping nature
Time for a break
Half-way through the hike there will be a lunch stop, during which your guide will show you how to prepare a traditional meal over a campfire, encouraging you to learn and take part in cooking. This is also an opportunity to take a refreshing swim in open waters of a wild lake in summer, or enjoy a bit of sledging in winter.
After lunch, you'll take a final stretch to the location of the sauna. There you will enjoy a relaxing three hours in a cosy and warm atmosphere, feel the heat of the traditional sauna and taste some sauna-special tea, brewed with local herbs. Your guide will show you how to take the most of this sauna experience.
After sauna, you will be taken back to Visaginas town, or a Visaginas Railway Station, by a private transfer. You can then catch a return train to Vilnius, or plan for an extra day spent in Visaginas, for example, to take an excursion to Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant or a training simulator of the power plant's control room.
